How Faculty of 1000 Biology is Organised

In the Faculty of 1000 Biology, the entire field of biology is divided into 18 Faculties (subjects), each of which is run by two to four Heads of Faculty.

Each Faculty is subdivided into 5-14 Sections, each run by two to four Section Heads and comprising between 10 and 60 Faculty Members. Faculty of 1000 Biology consists of some of the best scientists internationally in their respective fields and involves both experienced and younger investigators.

Each Faculty has a contingent representative of the proportion of papers published in that discipline. Currently, there are over 2300 Faculty Members, divided into 110 Sections representing specific research areas. Each Section represents a coherent community that reflects the way subscribers' interests divide. Some Sections are cross-indexed between more than one Faculty. To aid navigation, Faculties are always in upper case (e.g. 'CELL BIOLOGY') and Sections are in lowercase except for the initial letter (e.g. 'Cell adhesion').
