I was born in Israel, served for a few years in the Israeli army, was for a while a professional journalist and editor, and then graduated from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (Major: Genetics and Biochemistry, with supplements in modern history). My Ph.D. was in Biophysics (Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot), and my postdoctoral studies in neurogenetics and behaviour (Caltech, Pasadena). Upon returning to Israel, I joined the faculty of the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, and over the years, in addition to conducting research, served as the Dean of the Faculty of Biology at the Weizmann Institute and as a member of the National Planning and Grants committee of the Council of Higher Education, Jerusalem. I am currently a Professor of neurobiology at the Weizmann Institute, and my research focuses on the processes and mechanisms of learning and memory, at multiple levels of analysis. I am particularly interested in the processes of consolidation and extinction of memory, and in theories of learning and memory. |
