Various members of the group assist me with making evaluations for Faculty of 1000: Esther Bell, David Chambers, Jon Gilthorpe, Clemens Kiecker, Robyn Quinlan, Steffen Scholpp, Leigh Wilson, Natalie Harriman and Richard Wingate.
Research interests:
Our research focuses on how regional and cellular identities are established in the vertebrate embryonic nervous system.
We are particularly interested in the mechanisms underlying early neuroepithelial compartmentation and how this prefigures structurally and functionally distinct CNS regions.
A variety of complementary research projects are currently addressing early forebrain and midbrain patterning, the role of Hox genes in hindbrain and branchial arch development, emergence of respiratory rhythm generators in the medulla...and many more.
The laboratory uses a number of different techniques to address genetic and cellular aspects of development:
- microsurgical manipulation
- quail/chick fate map
- cell lineage analysis
- axonal tracing
- confocal microscopy
- retroviral gene transfer
- in ovo electroporation | Home page
